Welcome back to what will be a very busy and exciting term!
Many thanks if you have donated to our JustGiving, it is much appreciated. We are asking all families who have a funded place to consider a monthly donation of £30; it is easy to do at: https://www.justgiving.com/steppingstonescanterbury. You can also do this by following the link on our website. If you have given a one- off donation and wish to donate monthly, you can also do this by following the link. As you are aware, the funding we receive from the government does not cover our costs; without donations, the future of Stepping Stones is at risk. We are very grateful to everyone who has donated so far and we are thrilled to have raised £847.50.
We are very pleased to now be receiving regular donations from Fare Share and their partner store: Waitrose. Waitrose donate to Fare Share who distribute food that they are unable to sell to local charities; keep an eye out for our regular donations and help yourself to what you need.
Kent Gleaning Network.
We would also like to thank the Kent Gleaning Network for their generous donation of 250 apples. The Kent Gleaning Network works with local farms to glean produce that would otherwise go to waste; perhaps because of market saturation or because they are not deemed suitable for a UK market. The children have already very much enjoyed eating some of them!
Canterbury City Innovation Grant.
We are very pleased to have been awarded a £3000 grant from Canterbury City Council in order to bring our ‘Communication, Communication, Communication’ project to fruition. We will be purchasing some interactive technology to develop the children’s communication skills as well as asking all our families to become involved as we strive to take our project into the community. Family Member Volunteers.
Thank you so much those who have agreed to be part of our Family Member Volunteer group. This is the first time we have organised such a group and we are sure it will be a great success. If you are not involved and wish to become involved, please speak to your child’s key-person.
Thank you also to those parents who have agreed to consider a Trustee position. Without a viable committee Stepping Stones is unable to function.
If your child was born between 1st September 2015 and 31st August 2016 online applications for primary school are now open online at: https://www.kent.gov.uk/education-and-children/schools/school-places/primary-school-places please apply before 15th January 2020 to ensure your child is allocated a school place.
Please ensure your child comes to Stepping Stones in appropriate clothing; we do go outside in all weathers. They need warm, water-proof clothes and boots for outside. As we are in an interminable battle with mud; we would be very grateful if you could provide shoes for inside as well, and if you could name everything too, that would be even better!
Don’t forget you are always welcome to stay on our parent-rota; please sign up on the notice-board by the stage.
Your child’s learning journal is always available for you to look at next to the name tree. They are working documents, so may not always be completely up to date, but do please look at them whenever you please. If you wish to take them home, just let your child’s key-person know!
Puzzle and Games library.
Please do help yourselves to the bags containing puzzles and games; we want you to enjoy these with your child at home. Don’t forget to tell us about the fun you had!
We are very proud that Sally has been chosen as a Tutor Champion for Canterbury by The Professional Development Programme. She will begin training shortly in order to be able to train others to deliver high quality interventions to raise standards in Communication and Language for children.
